Marked with Kris Carnival and Kris Bourse

Tumpek Landep CelebrationVarious types of kris dagger jazzed up the Kris Carnival on the Celebration of Tumpek Landep, Monday (May 11). The artistic and spiritual activity was attended by hundreds of participants consisting of the archipelagic association of kris lovers, community leaders, customary security guard, employees of the Denpasar Municipality and the general public. The event was opened by Deputy Mayor of Denpasar, IGN Jaya Negara, in front of the Bali Museum marked with a dagger retraction.

Indeed, the city of Denpasar has never been deserted from the art and cultural activities. The culture-based city under the leadership of Rai Mantra and Jaya Negara continues to develop a wide range of cultural events. They include the kris exhibition and bourse held for three days.

The Head of the Denpasar Industry and Trade Agency, I Wayan Gatra, said that in the celebration is showcased more than 150 pieces of kris dagger. As for the bourse, the kris offered reaches thousands of pieces. “Through this celebration, we would like to instill the philosophy of one family one kris in the future,” said Gatra.

Since the period of Majapahit Kingdom, the people of Bali in particular and the archipelago have been familiar with tagline ‘one family one kris.’ It is a heritage that should be preserved considering the kris symbolizes the unification of families. “This activity will continue to increase the number of participants both from Indonesia and overseas,” he hoped.

While the Chief of Denpasar customary village, A.A. Putu Oka Suwetja, as chairman of the committee explained that the activity with the theme ‘Kris as the Indonesian Heritage, World Cultural Heritage’ is conducted to enhance the public understanding on the meaning of Tumpek Landep celebration falling on Saniscara Kliwon wuku Landep, Saturday (May 16).

It is also meant to enhance the creativity of the existing kris makers. “We expect the kris makers especially the blacksmith, goldsmith and silversmith in Denpasar can enhance their creativity and productivity to exchange ideas with fellow craftsman,” he explained Pande Nyoman Budiana, one of the exhibitors, said that the kris exhibition is one of the serious concerns given by the Denpasar Mayor to cultural sector, especially the kris. “Kris is a sublime legacy of the ancestors that must still be preserved,” he said.
