A total of 3,600 people involved in mass yoga and meditation in the north field of the Bajra Sandhi Monument, Sunday (Jun. 21). From six o’clock in the morning, the venue has been thronged by yoga practitioners from all over Bali and even foreign travelers. This spiritual event was held in relation to the commemoration of the World Yoga Day and it managed to break the record as the most yoga participants.
Participants dominantly putting on white and orange attires moved in accordance with the instruction. After started with meditation, it was resumed with yoga movement taking place up to nine o’clock in the morning. Aside from yoga practitioners, residents who happened to have exercise around the field were also interested in participating. The event was also joined by the famous bodybuilder Ade Rai, Balinese pop singer Ayu Saraswati and Vice Governor of Bali Ketut Sudikerta.
Indeed the yoga and meditation activities tend to be familiarly practiced by the people of Bali in order to get physical health and spiritual tranquility. Each school begins to intensively teach yoga techniques with the basic movement of Surya Namaskara.

Consul General of India, Mr. Takhi, explained that the commemoration of the world yoga day is celebrated simultaneously in 177 countries around the world. Especially in Bali, the activity is centered at Renon Square by involving the community from various walks of life. “In other words, the world already recognizes that yoga has been able to create a calm and peaceful life. Yoga keeps the body healthy and happy,” he explained.
Senior Manager of the Indonesia World Record Museum, Paulus Pangka, when met on the sidelines of the event said that the record-breaking in Bali was outstanding. “Previous record noted 1,012 participants of yoga exercise. And this time is extraordinary with the number of 3,600 participants. This amount exceeds the minimum requirement of 10 percent of the previous record,” he explained.
This yoga record of Bali is much more than the previous record achievement attended by 3,348 yoga participants carried out simultaneously in three cities. “In Bali it can reach 3,600 participants at one place. It is very incredible,” he said. This highest yoga record is initiated by senator of Bali’s representative, Arya Wedakarna, together with Consul General of the Republic of India in Bali. After the record-breaking was over, Ayu Laksmi and Gus Teja offered some spiritual songs soothing the soul of yoga participants and Balinese community at Renon Square. (BTN/015)
