All this time, the events of Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition (MICE) are predominantly held in tourist area of Southern Bali such as Nusa Dua, Kuta, Denpasar and Gianyar. Actually, a number of tourist areas on the island have the potential to host such MICE activities.
“MICE activities can be expanded to the whole area in Bali because they have the potential to develop this sector,” said Chairman of the Indonesian Congress and Convention Association (INCCA) of Bali Chapter, IB Surakusuma, recently.
On that account, explained Lolek as he familiarly greeted, the INCCA Bali would seek to lead the MICE activities out of Southern Bali, such as Singaraja in Northern Bali and Candidasa in Eastern Bali. “In addition to the potential owned by the region outside of Southern Bali to develop the MICE business sector, they are also easy to access. It just needs to be promoted and offered by the event organizers to their clients,” he said.
IB Surakusuma revealed that a number of regions in Northern, Eastern and Western Bali had different characteristic. Even, they were not owned by Southern Bali. However, to attract tourists to undertake a number of activities in the region would need the participation of all stakeholders, including the government, business and community.
“Therefore, we expect the government cooperation to develop this sector, so that in the future this sector can become a source of regionally generated revenue,” he concluded.
Potential of the MICE sector to be developed beyond the area of Southern Bali was also recognized by IB Wisnu, one of the MICE business operators. According to him, the development of MICE sector had grown by 50 percent since the beginning of the year 2013. “Some areas outside the Southern Bali have been noticed by foreign travelers to organize a variety of meetings and conventions,” he said.
As has been known, the arrival of foreign travelers in Bali during April 2014 reached 280,096 people. This amount increased by 15.57 percent compared to the same period in the previous year and this indicated an increase of 1.27 percent compared to March 2014. (BTN/015)
